SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

tribe supports reforestation

at Tribe we do not endorse cutting trees to use the wood for our furniture.

we choose to use reclaimed wood that our in-house carpenters lovingly restore and create new items. we understand the importance of saving our trees and believe so strongly about this that we regularly sponsor onetreeplanted to plant trees.

For more information or to fundraise, volunteer and support this incredible initiative please go to onetreeplanted.org.

empowering dreams

We have something very special we want to share with you in today’s post. Over the last few years TRIBE has been supporting the most wonderful charity and it’s the perfect opportunity to tell you all about the incredible and inspirational work they do at Shanti Bhavan.

In the heart of India's rural landscape lies a beacon of hope and empowerment: Shanti Bhavan. This remarkable institution stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and the unwavering dedication to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Abraham George, Shanti Bhavan is more than just a school; it's a nurturing environment where children from underprivileged backgrounds are given the opportunity to dream, learn, and succeed against all odds. Situated in Tamil Nadu, Shanti Bhavan provides a holistic education to children from impoverished families, offering them not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills, moral values, and emotional support.

At the core of Shanti Bhavan's mission is the belief that education is the most effective tool for social change. By providing high-quality education to children who would otherwise be denied such opportunities, Shanti Bhavan aims to break the cycle of poverty and empower future generations to create better lives for themselves and their communities.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Shanti Bhavan is its commitment to gender equality and female empowerment. In a society where girls are often marginalized and denied access to education, Shanti Bhavan stands as a beacon of hope for young girls, offering them equal opportunities to pursue their dreams and aspirations. Through education, girls at Shanti Bhavan are encouraged to challenge societal norms and strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives.

The impact of Shanti Bhavan extends far beyond the walls of its campus. Graduates of the school have gone on to pursue higher education at some of the world's most prestigious institutions, breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes along the way. Armed with the knowledge, skills, and confidence instilled in them at Shanti Bhavan, these young men and women are not only transforming their own lives but also contributing positively to society at large.

Shanti Bhavan's success lies not only in its academic curriculum but also in its holistic approach to education. Beyond textbooks and classrooms, students at Shanti Bhavan are taught the importance of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility. Through community service projects and extracurricular activities, they learn the value of giving back and making a difference in the lives of others.

Tribe, a committed advocate for education and social justice, has sponsored a child at Shanti Bhavan for the last eight years. Their ongoing support has enabled this deserving students to access quality education and pursue their dreams without financial barriers and thrive with this incredible opportunity.

“We receive regular updates from the young girl that Tribe has sponsored, and we have watched her blossom under the care of Shanti Bhavan” said Founder Jo England “ it is such an honour to be part of this initiative and Tribe is so happy to be part of the journey for this young lady”.

However, the journey of Shanti Bhavan has not been without its challenges. The school relies heavily on donations and philanthropic support to sustain its operations and provide scholarships to deserving students. Despite facing financial constraints, Shanti Bhavan remains committed to its mission of empowering children from marginalized communities and giving them the tools they need to succeed in life.

As we reflect on the remarkable journey of Shanti Bhavan, we are reminded of the power of education to transform lives and uplift communities. In a world plagued by inequality and injustice, Shanti Bhavan serves as a shining example of what is possible when we invest in the potential of every child, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through its unwavering commitment to education and social justice, Shanti Bhavan continues to inspire hope and change lives, one child at a time.

We love trees! And why wouldn’t we? We all know the important role trees play in producing oxygen and reducing carbon dioxide but did you know that forests provide jobs for over 1.6 billion people? Did you know that hospital patients with rooms overlooking trees recover faster than those without such a vista? One more, had you realized a single tree can be home to a hundred different species of insect, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants? The list goes on to what mother natures green creations are responsible for and that’s why TRIBE has recently got involved with the amazing non profit organization One Tree Planted and our green fingers are thrilled!

Background Image

At TRIBE we’re all for working with natural materials but timber is increasingly threatened worldwide with Mahogany and Teak at the top of the charts being classified as critically endangered. 80% of the world forests have already been destroyed and every 2 seconds man cuts down a forest area the size of a football pitch - a terrifying thought. One Tree Planted explains ‘ deforestation comes in many forms including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change’. Our wooden resources come at a great cost to both humans and wildlife too - according to One Tree planted, 28,000 species are expected to become extinct in the next 25 years due to deforestation and when you know that what remains of todays forestry is home to two-thirds of all existing animals and plants we must look to how we can revert these already alarming statistics and prevent further extinctions to animal and plant species.

With roots (sorry!) in Vermont, One Tree Planted works with reforestation organizations around the world providing financial support and know-how to get more trees in the ground. “We started in 2014 with a mission to make it simple for people to help the environment. One dollar. One tree. We pool the donations for each project and send the funds to our reforestation partners. We vet our partners to ensure that we maintain a tree survival rate of 80-90%. Planting trees is such a simple and effective way to make an impact. Trees clean the air we breathe and the water we drink. They help stabilize our climate, provide habitat for biodiversity, and create sustainable jobs”.

Reflecting on this years launch of TRIBE’s latest furniture collection PEG+, designed and made by TRIBE using 100% reclaimed wood, our support for the One Tree Planted program couldn't be more fitting. Wood is something we take for granted but it’s a resource and lifeline for many communities and wildlife globally. TRIBE will continue to plant trees as part of our company’s social responsibility and to support initiatives to re-generate rainforests. We strive to be the change that we want and to set the benchmark for other companies to take action. We can all do something. So far TRIBE has planted 100 trees through the program - we’ll keep you up to date on our buds and if you want to find out more or support the project yourself you can find information on their website onetreeplanted.org
